Rose/10.5 Fic Recs

10.5/Rose rec list last updated October 6, 2009.
New recs are marked as such. I've also starred (*) a few of my personal favorites.

My list of Handy/Rose recs. These stories are all canon-compliant with "Journey's End". I've organized them by rating (all-ages, teen, and adult)

All-Ages

A Proper Hello by mrv3000.
Author's summary: The Doctor and Rose experience another separation. A-day two-days-in-the-life silly fluff.
Notes: Rather hysterical ficlet about saying hello after an absence.

All the Ways that Count by Gillian Taylor.
Author's summary: He can’t offer her all of time and space. He can only offer her himself. Spoilers for Journey's End.
Notes: A reflective ficlet on adjusting.

An Ever-Familiar Face by rallalon.
Author's summary: This was one line of thought circling in his mind as he stared into the mirror, one of the very few. He could barely hold a dozen simultaneous thoughts in his head any longer, not even that. More like eleven.
Notes: The human Doctor ponders his new mortality (and freaks a bit).

Bridal Training by DQBunny.
Author's summary: Rose will do anything for her Doctor - including get herself arrested for an outlandish scheme that was all HIS idea to begin with. And it turns out that it's not the only idea he has. And why, oh why, does he expect Rose to read his mind? Men, honestly...
Notes: An amusing and rather sweet snippet of life in the alt!verse with Rose and the human Doctor.

Chase Your Demons Away by thirty2flavors.
Author's summary: Three weeks after Norway, the Doctor bonds with Tony Tyler over a shared affliction -- bad dreams.
Notes: Good characterizations make the story.

NEW Confusion All Around by Netgirl_y2k.
Author's summary: After he'd conquered alt!Earth and had all those giant statues of himself built, the Master wasn't sure what to do next.
Notes: Quite silly story about the Master in the alt!Verse. Has some typos, but the humor is worth it.

Five Things That Were Different About the Parallel Universe and One Thing That Wasn't by shinyopals and goldy_dollar.
Author's summary: As the Doctor discovers, things can be... slightly different in a parallel world. Crack!fic in places.
Notes: Nice humor piece about the differences in the alternate universe.

How Domestic by humansruperior.
Author's summary: His mind took him back to an endless field of rainbow flowers, all shades of colors.
Notes: A nice bit about 10.5 being forced to do domestic, with a wonderful showing by Jackie.

Notes: A nice little piece of the relationship on an ordinary-ish day.

Notes: A snippet of Rose and the human Ten adjusting.

Signing Up by mrv3000.
Author's summary: Post-Journey's End. A new reality sets in for the Doctor and Rose.
Notes: A perfect balance of a happy future and dealing with the problems JE raised. Also some nice touches of humor.

Some Other World by synecdoche.
Author's summary: This girl -- sister, Mummy calls her -- is from a strange and faraway place. Tony Tyler's take on his sister and the Doctor.
Notes: A lovely outsider's perspective on Rose and the human Doctor.

Something New by shinyopals.
Author's summary: She was beginning to suspect that the whole getting-engaged thing hadn't quite sunk in yet, given how calmly she was able to keep shopping. Or perhaps she was just so used to the unexpected that it didn't even faze her any more.
Notes: The human Doctor and Rose have a conversation at the grocery store. Adorably fluffy.

Suggestive Selling by thirty2flavors.
Author's summary: The Doctor makes a suggestion, Rose wears the metaphorical pants, and the Torchwood cafeteria sells questionable bananas.

Notes: The human Doctor, Rose, and Jackie begin to find their way home, in more ways than one.
Don't miss the equally brilliant sequel, Flying Kites.
NEW Or the adult third story, Tenses and Pronouns.

The Trouble With Tabloids by Everything is Magic.
Author's summary: The Doctor engages in some "quality" magazine reading and is surprised by what he finds.
Notes: Light and funny JE tag, with an amusing reference to Two & Jamie.

The Unusual Usual by goldy_dollar.
Author's summary: Rose reckons she should probably explain about the washing machine to the Doctor. The Doctor adjusts to being a half-Time Lord human hybrid stuck on the slow path without the TARDIS. Rose helps. Mostly fluffy.

Home is Where the Doors Are by orange_crushed.
Author's summary: CRACK ALERT. This is a silly, slightly naughty post-Journey's End ficlet that is actually based on a Hamlet pic.
Notes: Short and hysterical. The Doctor really doesn't like walls.

* In Another Life by sam_storyteller.
Author's summary: An all-too-human Doctor begins to build a life with Rose Tyler, but old ghosts -- both real and imagined -- still haunt him. And there's only so much human life you can live without a name...
Notes: Brilliant, brilliant multi-chapter story that focuses on the Doctor slowly finding his place and his way in the alt!universe. Perfect characterizations, and a well-planned plot. The parallels to Peter Wimsey and lovely and well-integrated (though not too confusing, if you haven't read Sayers).

Moving On by wmr.
Author's summary: It's still not going to be easy, for either of them - but she's determined to do the very best she can. SPOILERS for Journey's End.

Notes: Multi-chapter story, dealing with the first few days after Bad Wolf Bay, including working out the details of a more independent Rose, and the Doctor struggling with being half-human.

Second Time Lucky by Dendera.

* And So I Dare to Hope by unfolded73.
Author's summary: In this sequel to "Testing," Rose and her Doctor start to adjust to their new life in the altverse. A spontaneous road trip through Wales brings them even closer together.

Beginnings by SCAngel. (WIP)
Author's summary: Sometimes beginnings are as difficult as endings. And sometimes they come together.
Notes: Deft handling of Rose and 10.5 at a moment of change; with the highlight of some lovely references to Nine. In progress, updated sporadically.

Winnowing by karenbee.
Author's summary: She tries desperately to separate the two of them, while he tries to convince her that he is the same man.
Notes: Excellent take on Rose and the Doctor's various hang-ups, interwoven with smut.

NEW You That Way; We This Way by nonelvis.
Author's summary: It isn’t as though the Doctor intended to visit Rose and his duplicate. At least, that’s what he tries to tell himself.
Notes: Ten accidentally drops in on Rose and his duplicate three years on. Conversations and sex ensue. Thoughtful and true to character.
