Odo & Kira were one of my first ever OTPs, so I figured it was high time to get nostalgic and re-visit them. Sadly, a lot of the old sites are gone, but I've had fun hunting down some old classics, and discovering some new ones.
This is a very mixed bag of fic- romance, gen, humor, adventure- they're all mixed in together. However, I have marked adult fics as such. I've also included a list of links for further exploration.
Angle and Plane by Lori Summers.
Sisko sighed again, then plunged ahead. "They want to know if you'd consider an undercover mission to the Gamma Quadrant. Link with the Founders, find out what they know and what they plan, and somehow get out."
Length: Novel (284k)
Author's Summary: Odo accepts a very dangerous mission for the Federation, but what unexpected consequences will come of it? Romance, cello concerts, action 'n adventure, much whup-ass, chases, mysterious Section 31 operatives, Quark crying, near-death experiences, a blue-haired Dominion resistance fighter, a scenic but dangerous galactic spaceport and promises to give Morn a pedicure...
Notes: Set shortly after "His Way". Epic action/adventure fic. Has an even longer sequel, Circle and Spiral.
disappear by august.
He's the saddest person she's ever known, although to Weuyon he's a God and to Starfleet he's a science. She's seen him pull apart drunken Klingons but when his back is against a wall, he doesn't come out fighting.
Length: Snippet (8k)
Author's Summary:"I fall down in the shape of you".
Notes: S7, reflective and rather sad.
Finality by Farfalla.
She knew exactly what shape the emptiness had, or rather, that it had no shape at all. It was exactly the dimension of that dimensionless being who for so brief a time had shared her world in an open and honest love.
Length: Snippet (8k)
Author's Summary: Lonely one night after Odo leaves at the end of the show, Colonel Kira receives an unexpected present.
Notes: Post-series ficlet about Kira feeling stuck in limbo.
Founders' Day by Cardie-ologist.
He had long ago abandoned hope. Yet as The Day approached, other thoughts arose. If she knew of his love, if she lived, and the two of them returned to life on the station, wasn't there still an opportunity for happiness?
Length: Snippet (8k)
Author's Summary: Set the day before Children of Time begins, 'Old Odo' ponders what he will do when the Defiant arrives and he gets to see Kira again.
Notes: Short but spot-on look at the older Odo's thoughts.
The Long Haul by Yahtzee.
Odo nods. "Maybe it can be done. Maybe it can't. But you'll learn how or die trying." Other people would soothe her with false reassurance. Odo is too smart for that, and once again, Nerys is profoundly grateful to know him. Whatever strange chance brought him to them can only have been a blessing.
Length: Short (12k)
Author's Summary: In the final days before the Federation officers arrive at Deep Space Nine, Kira considers what their presence will mean.
Notes: Lovely pre-series gen fic.
Love Lessons by Roxanne Gilbert.
They ask nothing of each other. And still, they give all they can to each other. And somehow it is enough and yet, not enough. He finds the ironies in love both fascinating and frightening.
Length: Short (24k)
Summary: Post "His Way", a look at the O/K dynamic.
Notes: A short but apt character vignette, in which the character is the Odo & Kira as a couple.
Sex, Faith, and Questing after Visions by C. Zdroj. [adult]
"You know," Odo said, kissing her back, "When I'm here with you--sometimes I imagine I could believe in the Prophets." His voice was so soft it was as if he feared his own words.
Kira grinned broadly. "All part of my evil scheme--didn't you know?"
Length: Short (16k)
Author's Summary: Kira's time among the pagh-wraith cultists leads to personal angst and some musings about religion.
Notes: Episode tag to "Covenant".
Solid by Acidqueen.
Everything was fluid in him but his opinions and beliefs.
Length: Snippet (3k)
Author's Summary: Odo/Kira, drabble
Notes: Very short, but lovely.
They by Lori Summers.
She blinked. "You're not joking...really? They really did that?" He nodded mightily with an exaggerated "aren't I just the gossip-monger" look on his face. Leeta smiled and clasped her hands together. "How wonderful," she breathed. "With all this war and death, love is a revolutionary act!"
Length: Medium (45k)
Author's Summary: Raise your hand if Odo and Kira's big old smooch right in the middle of the Promenade made you swoon! Ever wonder what happened next? "They" is my take on how the station's inhabitants react to this momentous romantic occurrence.
Notes: Super fluffy/mushy, but a sweet follow-up to "His Way".
Third Moon Rising by Carolyn Fulton. [adult]
"Nerys, what's going on?" Dax hissed in excitement as soon as they were safely behind the kitchen door. "I thought you were coming here alone!"
"Last minute change of plans." Kira headed for the replicator and ordered cups of raktajino for both herself and her friend. "Odo was going to stay at some flea-bitten Klingon hotel called the Kreega, and I talked him into coming here with me instead."
Length: Long (100k)
Author's Summary: Just a spot of naughty romantic fluff with steamy edges.
Notes: YMMV, but if you're looking for romance novel-esque O/K smut, you've come to the right place. Was written pre-"Begotten", so Odo is still a solid, but Kira has already delivered the O'Brien baby. Kira and Odo end up vacationing together on Bajor. Certain things pop up.
Waltz II by C. Zdroj. [adult]
It was a miracle that they were able to work together at all, after everything that had happened during the recent Dominion occupation of DS9--but here they were now, standing together, almost as if none of that had happened. It was, for one brief moment, as it had been after the departure of the Cardassians and before the arrival of the Federation--with the two of them in silent solidarity, looking over the wreckage of the station and into a future that seemed grim at best.
Length: Medium (32k)
Author's Summary: While Sisko is off waltzing with Dukat, two of his crew members are engaged in a very different sort of dance.
Notes: Anticipates "His Way" with a far more serious and intense method of getting the two together.
